As the semester comes to an end at UMF, most everyone is beginning to ramp up for finals week on campus. With the endless hours of studying, research papers, final projects, and exams this can be a time of stress for most college students. Luckily, UMF provides its students with several resources to survive finals week.
UMF offers free tutoring services to all of its students on campus. Tutors are a great resource to utilize as you prepare to study for finals. UMF math tutor and junior Jacie Nickerson shares how to get in contact with a tutor.
“In order to use the tutoring services students can visit the learning commons in the library, email Misty Beck, or they can jump on Navigate from their Umaine Portal to search and set up an appointment with available tutors,” Nickerson said.
Tutors can help in a number of different ways. They can provide help, organizational skills, and make finals week way less stressful.
“Tutoring can help support students in a variety of ways when preparing for finals. We are all willing to help you review concepts, set up study guides, show you websites that can help you review things on your own in numerous ways, and we can also help you formulate questions to take to your professors if need be,” Nickerson said.
When you have a mile-long to-do list, staying calm can feel extremely challenging; however, reach out to support on campus if you’re struggling. There are several individuals on campus that can help you. Advocate for yourself and remember you can do this! Some students share how they are planning to survive their first finals week at UMF.
“Without really knowing how finals week is in college, I think I am ready to survive finals week. I think with the tutoring and professor’s office hours, they are enough to get the extra support that I need to take my finals,” UMF freshman Grace Sommer said.
It is important to be prepared for finals week by eating a balanced diet, creating a schedule, and most importantly being kind to yourself. There are several ways to study for upcoming exams and finding what works best for you is very important to your success.
“I plan to study and use my resources such as tutoring to prepare for finals week. I am very organized, I color code my notes, and use them to study. Normally, I have someone quiz me on them before my exams,” UMF freshman Holly Floyd said.
