Fashion trends come and go all the time, sometimes they circle back around and resurface. We all remember scrunchies, butterfly clips, and cargo pants making their comebacks. Across campus there are many styles, all of which are unique and show personality. That is the thing about fashion—it demands to be noticed.
Currently, there seems to be a tote bag trend on campus and beyond. Tote bags are not just a super cute fashion accessory, but they are also highly practical. They can hold a sweater if you get cold, a book to read, a snack in case you get hungry, or even your school supplies. Typically, they are bigger than a purse, so they can hold more. Some even use them as grocery bags, which is good for the environment.
Similar to tote bags, there is a fanny pack trend sweeping the nation. Whether they are Lululemon, Nike, or any other brand, many people carry them around. This was a trend a while ago back in the 80s, but it has been brought back in full swing. This storage bag is much smaller than a tote bag, but still highly practical. Fanny packs hold your wallet, chapstick, your phone, and any other small necessities you can think of.
Since the beginning of the fall season, people have gone into a craze over Birkenstocks. Not just any Birkenstocks though: Boston Birks. These shoes go perfectly with a nice flannel and some leggings. Boston Birkenstocks are labeled as a clog, but still hold the comfort of a classic Birkenstock. The air began to turn crisp and the website soon read “Out of Stock.” They have since been restocked, so grab them while you can. Regardless, people around campus are rocking these shoes with sweaters, jeans, sweatpants, and various other ways.
Low rise jeans seem to also be making their comeback, which is very Y2k. Some believe they should remain in the past, while others are all for the comeback. Low rise jeans used to be paired with a cropped baby tee, which is still on trend now. See? What was in style then, is coming right back around.
Oversized clothing has also been a trend in college students at UMF and most other campuses. Oversized hoodies and crewnecks are always the move when going to class because they’re not only comfy, they’re just as trendy. Across campus, students have been wearing oversized crewnecks with cargo pants and Vans, oversized graphic tees, and even oversized UMF merch. We love to see it.
Overall, UMF has some pretty stylish students, with each student bringing something entirely new to the table. Clothes are such an important way of life for college students and show individuality as well as character. Fashion is definitely not in short supply here at UMF.
