The course “Exploring AI in Thought and Practice” is currently being taught and will be taught in the Fall 2025 semester by Steven Pane and Bryce Cundick. Pane is a music professor as well as a known pianist, and Cundick works in Mantor Library as the IT Director while also serving on an AI Steering Committee.
Both Pane and Cundick were excited about teaching the class.
Pane said he wanted to “prepare students for the new world they would be going into”.
Responding over email, Cundick said “he was always interested in technology and that when Steven thought about offering an AI class, he jumped on the opportunity.”
Both are continuing to learn many things as the class progresses, with Pane saying he has to be, “on his toes and that the class envisioned in November is not the same now and won’t be the same in April.”
Pane and Cundick both note that students seemed excited and engaged in the material of the class, Cundick pointing out that students are enjoying the opportunity to explore AI. Due to the experimental nature of the class, Cundick says more structure is needed in the class.
Pane added that, “There will be new things in the fall like creating more activities that cultivate student interaction with AI.”
When registering for classes, you will be able to find it under ACE 277 (Academic and Career Exploration). The best way to find information about the class is to email Steven Pane (steven.pane@maine.edu) and Bryce Cundick (bryce.cundick@maine.edu).
