UMF Film Club Returns

Lights, Camera, Action—the film club is back and taking the stage at UMF! The club is currently seeking any and all individuals that have an interest in creative writing, screenwriting, directing, and acting.
UMF junior Rowan Fitzgerald, a creative writing major with a minor in film studies, is bringing the club back to life on campus. Open to all individuals who are interested, the club can be of huge benefit to creative writing majors, screenwriters, or filmmaking minors. It is also a great way to be involved on campus and meet new people!
“The goal of film club would be to enrich UMF’s culture by going out and creating short films around campus, in town, or wherever the creative projects take us. The club is in its infancy of being reestablished but we held an interest meeting recently and the overarching idea is to create these short films and eventually showing them to a prospective audience at Lincoln Auditorium or Emery,” Fitzgerald said.
Starting with 5-minute films in smaller groups of individuals and then collaborating in the spring to create a longer film with a larger meaning that sheds light on social issues, the club hopes to incorporate different perspectives and ideas from others into their films.
Along with being a fun thing to do on campus, the club seeks to give students experience with acting, screenwriting, producing, and directing films. Creative Writing and Screenwriting Professor Amy Neswald tells us more about the benefits of creating your own medium:
“People who are looking to work in the industry whether it is as a writer, director, or actor. Making films teaches you so much about screenwriting and storytelling. It exposes the opportunities and constraints of the medium,” Neswald said.
