Spooky season is upon us and with that comes a few fun activities on campus. This month, Association of Campus Entertainment (ACE) is putting on multiple events for students at UMF. On the week of Oct. 16, ACE will be putting on a Haunted Walk and the annual Halloween Dance. Along with these two popular events there will be a spirit week.
Starting on Oct. 16, Spirit Week will have multiple themes from classic horror, where you can dress up as your favorite horror movie character, to orange and black themes.
“We want everyone to feel like they are able to participate in spirit week,” said ACE President Samantha Michelson, when asked about the variation of themes.
The other two themes are Disney, and the undead themes. There will not be a theme for the night of the Halloween Dance.
On Oct. 18, ACE will be putting on their Haunted Walk event. Students will get to go through a haunted house style walk put on by their peers. So, if any students at UMF love being scared or love going to haunted houses, the Haunted Walk event is certainly a must go.
“Everyone likes to be a little scared and it is always a fun time when you see your classmates having fun,” Michelson said.
ACE is still looking for some more actors for the event so if any UMF students want to become actors and scare their friends, they can email samantha.michelson@maine.edu.
Lastly, the annual Halloween Dance will take place at the end of spirit week on Oct. 20. The Halloween Dance is coming back once again this year brought to you by ACE. The dance will be open to all UMF students and students from inside the UMaine system. It is important to know that if you bring a guest from inside the UMaine system, but not from UMF, you must make sure they have some sort of ID on them.
The dance will have a change of scenery this year as it is being moved to the Fitness and Recreation Center. ACE is also bringing along the students at WUMF to DJ at the dance.
“We are all super excited by the new things happening with this year’s dance,” Michelson stated.
Along with a change of scenery and music, there will be a costume contest that will feature multiple winners. The contest will have multiple categories including, couples, group, scariest, unique, and fan favorite costumes. Fan favorite will be a time for everyone at the dance to vote for their favorite costume. Even more exciting is, the winners in all the categories will get a prize of a basket based on what their category is.
“It should be a great time. It is always great to see what all our peers come up with for their costumes,” Michelson exclaimed excitedly.
Overall spooky season is looking like it is going to be one for the ages. If you are interested in helping out at any of the events reach out to Samantha Michelson at samantha.michelson@maine.edu.
