Over Terion Moss’s time at UMF he took the ball coast to coast many times. Coast to coast in basketball is when a player gets the ball at their own basket and goes down the court by themselves and scores on the opposing team's basket. This time though coast to coast takes on a whole new meaning. Moss, a standout point guard at UMF has proven that he is one of the best in the school’s history. Earlier this summer Moss, from Portland, signed to play professional basketball in Killarney, Ireland, another coastal town.

The excitement was real when Moss transferred from The University of Maine to UMF in the fall of 2019. Men’s Basketball Head Coach Sam Leal felt that excitement before he was even coach.

“I was absolutely thrilled being an alum, I wasn't at UMF at the time but I was still thrilled,” he said.

Moss was family as soon as he stepped foot on campus. In one case literally.

“I think a large part of why [Moss] chose to come to UMF was the atmosphere and the type of family community… his brother was here and was having a good experience,”  Leal said.

Moss’ brother Amir was already on campus and making a giant impact on the team. Amir is a part of the 1,000 point club for UMF basketball players who have scored 1,000 points or more while playing for the team. A club that Moss also joined during his time here.  Some may say that Moss and Amir were meant to play together at UMF.

Moss would spend the rest of his college career being a staple for the program. Moss would end his career averaging 22.4 points per game as well as end his career with a total of 1,655 points. Not to mention Moss being named a Pre-Season All American before his senior season and winning North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Player of the Year not once, but twice.

One thing that set him apart is not that he was just a good player, but he was a great leader. Coach Leal did not need to push him to lead. Moss knew how to lead all by himself.

“Terion has a way of teaching others, that is very receptive from the person who is learning from him,” he said.

Moss’ leadership showed in the success of the team. In Moss’ senior year UMF went 19-1 in conference and fell one game short of winning the NAC championship. The second championship UMF made since Moss joined the team.
